Learn From Industry Professionals

As a music business major, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills to secure careers in a variety of areas such as record company operations, music publishing, artist management, music marketing, public relations, merchandising, social media, concert promotion and entertainment law. By studying in the heart of Music City, the opportunities to network with industry professionals will give you real-world experience while earning your degree.

The major combines traditional business courses, such as accounting, finance, management and economics, with music business core classes such as survey of music business, copyright law, music publishing and survey of recording technology.

Choose from one of the following emphasis areas to develop a specialized career focus

Music Business: Allows you to delve deeper into the business of music business, with flexibility to choose more elective courses in music business.
Music Production: Teaches necessary skills for a career in the development of music through listening skills and building sessions in digital audio workshops.
Legal Studies: Allows you to begin an Entertainment Law track that serves as preparation for law school.
International Music Business: Prepares you for careers abroad or domestic related to international music and music business. 
Live Event Management: Provides you with a strong foundation for careers working in various venues, concerts, working with fairs and festivals, etc.

Mike Curb College Of Entertainment & Music Business

In addition to the expertise of our Adult Degree Program staff, you'll also have access to the expertise of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business’ faculty, providing the world class music business education we are known for. Check out the virtual tour of the R. Milton & Denice Johnson Center, which features state-of-the-art screening theaters, computer labs, mixing suites, digital production and animation studios, motion picture sound stages, research laboratories, student meeting space, offices, classrooms and more. With multi-functional spaces offering classroom, lab, performance, production and research options, the new building is designed for interdisciplinary collaborations among the music business, audio engineering technology, entertainment industry studies, songwriting, motion pictures and media studies programs.

A faculty advisor will meet with you regularly to discuss your academic and career interests, and you'll be supported by the Curb College Professional Development Team, which provides resources that broaden the professional skills and networks of our students and graduates, equipping them to readily assimilate into the entertainment industry.

Majoring in Music Business prepares you for a vast amount of career options. Given the ability to specialize in an emphasis area, there are a wide variety of career opportunities available for graduates, including positions in artist management, publishing, record companies, and as booking agents, tour managers, business managers and entertainment attorneys.
